Artist's Description

"Waiting for the Train" by Debra and Dave Vanderlaan ...This old abandoned trestle deep in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina used to carry the Lexington and Nashville Line. The trestle bridge goes over the Valley River in Murphy, North Carolina in the western area of the Nantahala National Forest. A river trail leads to this trestle and makes a wonderful little hike from the Konaheeta Park along the Valley River... An old railroad car still sits at the station just a long block away, while the old trestle is waiting for the train..... Captured on a beautiful autumn day, sunshine glowing on the big cumulus clouds overhead and on the scattered leaves on the weathered track... The trestle is just a 1/2 mile away from the L & N Depot, and here is the history of the depot: The L&N Depot (circa 1887) - Was the meeting place of the Southern (originally the Carolina Railroad) and the Louisville & Nashville (originally the Georgia Railroad). What remains is the freight area...

About Debra and Dave Vanderlaan

Debra and Dave Vanderlaan

"After 30 years in the floral and plant nursery business, Debra and Dave Vanderlaan sold both businesses and turned their life-long photography hobby into full-time obsession. The Vanderlaans are both award-winning photographers and well-known both domestically and internationally. Many of their images showcase the tropical landscapes of South Florida and the mountain vistas of the Smoky Mountains and many gorgeous scenes around the world. Their motto is Celebrate Life and that seemed a natural name for their gallery. Their images have been displayed in the Smithsonian Museum in Washington, DC, at the North Carolina Museum of Art, Turchin Art Center in Boone NC, the Palm Beach Photography Museum, and of course at The MAC: Murphy Art...
