After an ill-fated attempt on a local chicken coop, this young Great Horned Owl ended up tangled in an electric fence for her troubles. Once freed, she seemed dazed and unable to fly, though there were no apparent injuries. I watched over her for two hours, taking the occasional photograph, until she finally flew up into the trees where she perched for another hour before moving on. Though very common to our area, you can often hear their calls in the evenings, this is the first one I have seen in the wild. Very exciting.

For over forty years I have wandered the world with a camera close at hand, always searching for that "just right" moment to capture.
