These Pennsylvania Dutch treats will make you say Whoopie! Whoopie pies are historically made in the Pennsylvania Dutch culture from leftover cake batter. Local Amish historians say when children would find these treats in their lunch bags, they would shout whoopie! These delicious pies were made by me in my home in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania on 8.22.10 in celebration of my mother�s 67th birthday. Getting in touch with my Pennsylvania Dutch roots, I opted to follow an old traditional family recipe. I also used flour, sugar and buttermilk that I procured in Lancaster County.
