Artist's Description

William Lloyd Garrison (1805-1879), joined the Abolitionist movement at age 25 and he founded THE LIBERATOR, an antislavery newspaper. He was most influential in the 1830s, but his increasing radicalism, advocating the North secede from a nation tainted by slavery, undermined his influence in the 1840s and 1850s. Photo ca. 1855.
