Description

Our greeting cards are 5" x 7" in size and are produced on digital offset printers using 100 lb. paper stock. Each card is coated with a UV protectant on the outside surface which produces a semi-gloss finish. The inside of each card has a matte white finish and can be customized with your own message up to 500 characters in length. Each card comes with a white envelope for mailing or gift giving.

Artist's Description

The small air bubble reminded me of a small planet floating in a glass galaxy. Yes, these are photographs. Photographs of glass pieces I create in my studio. It all begins with some small pieces of glass and clay pots with holes in the bottom. Not just any glass, but specialty fusible glass that is made so that the different colors are compatible with each other when heated and cooled. While the final patterns cannot be determined, the way the glass is stacked in the pots does have an effect on the finished melt. Different sizes and shapes of holes also have an effect. The pot of glass is placed in the kiln suspended over a kiln shelf with a barrier to keep the molten glass contained. The kiln is heated slowly to just under 1700 degrees Fahrenheit, the temperature at which the glass has melted and is flowing through the holes in the pot creating the final patterns. I first began exploring and working with glass in 1989, while employed as a research biochemist in New York. I had always admired many types of glass, including stained, torch-worked and blown, but had focused on science rather than art or craft until this time. My first pieces were created using the copper-foil stained glass methods, learned from a book and, later, videos and experimentation. Kiln-worked glass was beginning to re-emerge as a respected glass art form around this time, and I found it to be an intriguing and less common technique to use to achieve some of the designs I envisioned. At this point, I was just interested in creating glass pieces for myself and as gifts, but friends coerced me into showing my work at art...
