In 1996, after years of drawing on napkins and sketchbooks Victor decided to try his hand at painting. The third painting he ever did, titled “Upright Citizen”, was chosen as the cover art for a new cd by reknown jazz upright bass player Charles Fambrough’s new cd, which he also titled “Upright Citizen”.It is from this painting that his inimitable stlye was born.Says Bailey “I am not very good at drawing or painting hands, so I thought I’d make the outline of the hands and go back later and fill in the details.Immediately after doing so I recognized that there was a style here, and have worked tirelessly ever since to develope and improve the quality of the style”.He has had a continual list of exhibits ever since, with brisk sales at all stops. The work has proven to have strong appeal to jazz lovers and is included in the collections of such reknown jazz artists as Patrice Rushen, Ralph Moore and Bennie Maupin.
His newest works are a collection of digital artworks. He said, “I spend more than half of each year touring as a musician, and was looking for a way to kill time in airports, hotels and on airplanes. So I started working with a painting program on my Mac computer.I did this for about two years before it ever occurred to me to try the same style I’d been painting with. I immediately enjoyed the look of it and have been focusing on it ever since”.Have a look around the various galleries and please continue to enjoy.
