Maria Arango Diener is a full-time artist living in Las Vegas, Nevada. Maria has been widely exhibited in regional, national and international exhibits. Accomplishments include Best of Show Awards in Fine Art Festivals and purchase awards. A personal goal to complete 1,000 woodcuts is progressing heartily. Art Festivals throughout the West continue to be Maria’s favorite venue for meeting her fast growing audience of collectors. In Maria's artwork, subjects include the enchanting desert landscape and the enigmatic human figure, often in somewhat surrealistic style. Designs are based on observations and reference photographs, often sketching on the woodblock on location or working from memory in the studio. Human figure designs are usually inspired by the grain of the wood itself. Woodcuts and wood engravings are made by drawing an image on a block of wood, usually cherry in my case, then carving out the negative spaces. After carving, what is left is a big 'stamp' of the desired image. I roll ink with a roller over the woodcut, place a piece of handmade paper on the inked block, apply pressure and transfer the image on the paper. All offerings in FineArtAmerica are exclusive digital versions of original woodcuts and original photographs
