Secrets of the Field Edges
Perpetually fascinated by the natural world, the changing seasons and the astonishing variety of life, I capture my feelings about the colourful array I see in nature. Bounded by wildness, each cultivated area has a plethora of flowers and insects fillings the spaces between the crops, oil seed rape, wheat and barley. Here is a triplet of minute vistas in oil pastel and watercolour, my favourite mixture of materials at the moment. Peeping into the crop you can envisage a miniature world, of mice, beetles and worms, the occasional bird and butterfly. I sat for each of these paintings at the side of the fields, enjoying the minutiae of the lives within the boundary of the field.
