Born of an artistic family, life without art is simple insanity.

The education of art started as soon as a drawing tool could be held in hand. Daily admiration of a mother painting and monthly visits to the local art museums and galleries were a formative inspiration. Talent as an artist shown in early childhood, with awards and much encouragement to continue with artistic endeavors, which lasted throughout primary and secondary schooling. Not being born of financial wealth, but of spiritual wealth, her ideas blossomed with the ability to work with what materials were available. In retrospect, the creative encouragement often lead to the ability to obtain a myriad of supplies and the capabilities of working in many mediums. Each medium, for the artist, leads to a different form of expression, an experimental way of 'breaking' artistic rules.

At the end of secondary school, many artists are often discouraged to pursue their heart's desire. With this ideal began a major family discussion, causing the artist to question the next applicable pursuit. After two years of training in Psychology, it became more clear that art was a necessity for survival. Then returning to studies (secretly) in Studio Art and still questioning the nature of others persuasions, began the studies in Commercial Art. After another 2 years of study, an A.A.S. in Visual Communication (specialization in Graphic Design) was received and academia continued, including an internship with NYSSSA (NYS Summer School of the Arts). Many applications went out to colleges with more intensive studies in the field of art. Within 2 weeks the acceptance letter from Pratt Institute arrived and an everlasting adventure in NYC began. Another year and a half passed and a very important question was asked during class, 'Do you do it (art), because you love it or for the money?'. When a majority of the class responded with 'Money first!, definitely money first!', the heart of the Fine Artist exploded into a monologue that will never be forgotten. After that life changing day, it was made very clear that in-order to be an artist you simply have to make art. The education received has played an important part of the artist's career and abilities and continues to influence a personally directed education in art.

Since departure from institutional education, Laura Walker has had several exhibitions and her works reside throughout the world. She's also held positions of Artist Assistant, Assistant Art Director, Curator, and Event Coordinator in many different venues.

She currently resides in Taos, NM, where she is a freelance Artist, who helps other artists (of many mediums) pursue their dreams, and is a member of the Taos Arts Council.

Laura Walker joined Fine Art America on January 29th, 2013.
