I currently live in Palm Desert, near Palm Springs, California, having left Seattle, Washington in 2000, where I was born and raised. A large selection of crayons and plenty of drawing paper always kept me preoccupied as a kid. From crayons, to colored pencils and ink markers, I attempted my first oil paintings after discovering the neighborhood art store at the age of eleven.
For many years I explored acrylic painting and a whimsical style of landscape art influenced by years in Seattle, Palm Desert and a brief time in Hawaii. Always drawn to light and color, I began to explore and develop the more free-form style of abstract expressionism. I found the freer approach liberating and learned much about pigments, their behavior and interaction.
After more than a decade of painting abstract art, I find myself drawn back to the whimsical style of landscape art I had painted years earlier.
Influenced by my love affair with sailing and almost fifteen years owning and operating a sailing school and charter business, as well as almost twenty years now of living and working in the Greater Palm Springs area as well as three years in Waikiki, Honolulu, selling real estate, I was almost always surrounded by what seemed an 'endless vacation' of sorts. This theme now greatly enhances and influences a different painting style that uses a variety of media and techniques and a whole lot of fun and color!
I primarily paint lighthearted scenes of life in the Greater Palm Springs and Coachella Valley area influenced by the many vacation homes and condos I routinely visit and show. From time to time I enjoy painting Hawaii homes and beach scenes as well. I've developed a unique, simple, happy style that I hope is uniquely my own.
I work primarily in acrylic paint and some ink pens, with works coming alive with a fun and vibrant playfulness that not only portrays the simplicity of relaxing life in the desert, poolside and garden scenes, but also portrays the 'endless vacation' this area offers for many.
Born as a child of the 50's I also enjoy capturing some of the nostalgia of past times with my artwork. I love humor and color and enjoy painting the lighthearted side of life. Welcome to my world and the land of endless vacations.
I am a member of the juried 'Desert Art Center', which is an Artist Organization, Cooperative Gallery and Arts Education Center in Palm Springs, California. In addition I am a member of and support the 'Arts Oasis', Creative California Desert and I keep my membership current in the 'Association of Hawaii Artists' in Honolulu, Hawaii.
I am also a licensed real estate agent in California and Hawaii and currently work as a Realtor in the Greater Palm Springs area when I am not painting.
I maintain a home and studio in Palm Desert, California and when time allows, enjoy occasionally returning to Seattle and Hawaii for inspiration.
I still continue to paint in the abstract style as well. If you wish to view my abstract artwork, originals and prints, please visit DouglasFischerFineArt.com
