I got into photography at the University of Iowa in the late 70s when I completed a three-week photography course taught by an outstanding photographer and friend—Dale Hankins. I learned about aperture, shutter speed, framing, and light and dark. I learned about developing film and printing black and white pictures. Then I completed a second course taught by another outstanding photographer and friend—Reinhard Ziegler. I learned about Microfine developer, dodging and burning, printing up on #3 contrast paper, and calling 'pictures' 'photographs.'
