Dr. James Simmons was raised by his grandmother, along with his 4 siblings, after the death of his mother. He grew up in Burton, SC and matriculated through the Beaufort County School system; ultimately graduating from Battery Creek High School. He attended Morehouse College where he received his bachelor’s degree in biology. He received his Doctor of Medicine from the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
