California's South Coast
At the north end of LA county is one of the most recognizable beaches, Malibu Beach or called "Bu" by the surfers. It stretches 27 miles along the coast and is best known as the beach of Hollywood fame. It also has a pier. Santa Monica and Venice are adjoining beachfront communities in western Los Angeles. Both have wide beaches and a Mediterranean climate, but different vibes. Santa Monica located on Santa Monica Bay, is known for the Santa Monica Pier built in 1909, Pacific Park and a historical carousal, Santa Monica Promenade, Muscle Beach, and theaters. It has been home to 100's of movies and TV shows. Venice Beach is a bohemian community once built as a seaside resort. The marshes were drained to build the houses and the canals, which were modeled after Venice, Italy. Most of the canals were filled in when it became part of Los Angeles in 1929. The main attractions in Venice are the canals, the pier, Abbot-Kinney Blvd, and the promenade that runs next to the beach. Venice Beach is known to be a cultural hub, and is full of eccentric people and happenings. It is a popular tourist destination. South Bay beaches include Marina del Rey, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, and Redondo Beach, each with its own personality.
