Capturing an inner feeling, so quickly passing, that's beyond words, almost beyond thought: the nuances that dance between a mountain & the sky that embraces her, creating a symphony that the eyes perceive, but only the soul remembers. This celebration of light upon the physical & ethereal worlds, creates a love affair for the viewer. It's this special moment that excites me, that drives me to risk failure, if I but the chance to capture a fraction of what I see, feel or know, from this wonderful experience we call 'Life!!'
Before 1986 the word 'plein air' had not been used in the United States art field since around the 1920s. An artist from Catalina Island called me, and asked me to do ONE national advertisement, to promote a group she created called PLEIN AIR PAINTERS OF AMERICA (PAPA). I told Denise, that ONE ad would never work...so I offered to set up an ad campaign, that involved 3 national art magazines: Southwest Art, Art of the West, and Artists of the Rockies, totaling 22 ads a year. I did these ads up until 1995 (without pay!), and thru which created a national interest in Plein Air Painting! Today there are hundreds if not thousands of plein air groups!!
