Christine Winship is a watercolor artist who has been specializing in doing pet portraits for the last 6 years. She grew up in rural Massachusetts surrounded by family and lots of animals giving her strength and inspiration that continues today. She studied art 'core' program at the Corcoran School of Art in Washington DC, then moved back to Massachusetts to complete her BFA in Illustration at the Art Institute of Boston. Christine frequently donates gift certificates for custom paintings to animal shelters and rescue organizations in order to raise funds for these worthy causes. She has recently shown her work at the Willoughby & Baltic Gallery in Somerville, MA , the Old Lyme Art Association in Lyme CT and is a member of New England Arts for Animals.

'I paint because it does make me feel some sense of accomplishment. I enjoy painting animals because they are great to look at and study. I have started recently painting some people portraits, but it may be a while before I display them. To me, a successful piece of art is one that makes one walk away feeling an emotion. Whether it be joy, awe or even sandness and anger, it was the artwork that brought that out. I believe my art work evokes a happiness (as most people see their own pet in my work). I believe that it's composition makes the painting. It is essential to have both positive and negative space interact with the eye-to-the-brain. I believe that painting animals is easier than painting people simply because people don't like the way they look. I am donate gift certificates for rescues and shelters for homeless pets. I am amazed at the amount of people who dont even realize the over population of cats and dogs we have. Or even not knowing what a 'kill shelter' is. I am a proud rescuer of a 3 year old kitty who was on death row. I adopted her 2 days before her 'death date' and she's so sweet. Her name is Luna. I try to visit an art museum or gallery at least once a month. I can spend hours on myartspace.com just looking at what other people are doing. I believe it's essential to see where art is now as it was back then
