Chuck Marshall (Charles W. Marshall Jr.) was born in Wilmington, Ohio in 1957. He is one of seven children raised in a small, three bedroom house. Their father purchased the home, which was once a place where furs were bought and sold. Growing up around farms and learning to appreciate rural life helped mold Chuck's love for nature which still exists and is evident in his work even today.
Chuck has a studio in Mason, Ohio. Most of the time Chuck can be found in his studio or outside painting 'en pleine air' in the surrounding countryside. En pleine air translates from French to English as in the open air, and describes painting outdoors rather than studio painting. His respect for the tradition of landscape painting shows in his work and his work ethic. He admits he can't reproduce nature in his paintings because nature itself is the highest art form, but that's not really his goal. Instead, Chuck strives to capture the beguiling appeal of nature's wonders - its light, form and color.

Chuck attended one year at the Cincinnati Art Academy before moving to southern California, where he studied at the California Art Institute. While living out west, he studied with various artist that worked in the Southwest style and the Plein Air style. Chuck considers himself a Plein Air Impressionist. He is now one of Ohio's leading plein air painters.

Chuck is influenced by various artists including Edgar Payne, Guy Rose, Maynard Dixon, John Singer Sargent, Kevin MacPherson, Quang Ho, and many more.

Chuck Marshall joined Fine Art America on January 12th, 2007.
