Canada is a vast beautiful country with geographic treasure trove of amazing landscapes. This is my first in a series of silk paintings to explore and to compose silk painting of how I see this earthly paradise.

The sea grape tree of Saint Lucia has colours of such vibrant and exotic hues. This silk painting captures this beauty. 

When painting on silk there is a delicate balance of using the actual raw silk to act as white. This technique is quite like watercolour painting only with more colour saturation and bleeding ability. 

I find adding tiny sections of black in my compositions enhances all the other colours and make textures stand out. I see black as the absence of colour, it is the mystery quality of my work.  

This simple video depicts how I use a wet on wet technique on silk to create a 3D effect. The bright colours, textures, shadows and use of light create this wonderful form.

Painting on silk is so explosive by nature. Look closely and you will notice the dancing light flickering on the surface of the silk as the paint bleeds into every silk fibre. My whole intent is to capture just a tiny moment in time... 

This short clip shows how I paint on silk using a wet on wet technique. Most of my work is tropical, but the shimmering light technique is unique to me, I accidentally developed this technique on the island of St. Lucia in 1996.

Beneath the crystal surface of the Caribbean Sea near the Pitons of St. Lucia, a school of triggers gather to create a canvas of gem like colours dancing under the laser sun. 

St. Lucia is an earthly paradise where I was born and from where all my creative energy came from. A tiny island which has a rich history and melting pot of cultures. 

By creating light shimmering on the carapace of the sea turtle while painting on silk, this allows for giving a hint as to how beautiful these wonderful animals look underwater. 

I had a beautiful discovery of creating light on stones in a shallow stream. The light dances and gives the illusion of water in motion. 

Silk painting has many undiscovered techniques, they all arrive in the form of an accident while painting.
