Symphony in Blue

View All Collections

Symphony in Blue Initially I began editing some proofs of my last screen prints that had been littering my studio for some time. My only intention was to make some original publicity cards and clear away the unwanted proofs. I soon became very excited at what started to emerge. Striking abstract images began to appear, being instantly created with the cut of a knife. It immediately struck me that more could be made of this process as I desperately searched for more hidden images. After some experimentation and much deliberation I started to develop a strict method of working, selecting and cropping images within a predetermined area of 6" x 4". At times this became frustrating. Instead of applying a medium to a surface and building up an image, I was subtracting from one work to make another. It is direct and cannot be altered. Around this time I had also been listening to a lot of classical music after being introduced to it by my wife. There seemed to be some sort of connection with what I was doing and the movements and structure of a symphony. All of the work I was producing was in harmony with each other. With this in mind the work took on a new direction. Embracing an idea of creating a visual symphony, I began grouping images in a triptych format. Spending hours creating and discovering cohesive formations. Finally, with 4 triptych's made my 1 st visual symphony was complete. ' Symphony in Blue ". Whether the concept of this work is important or not I do feel it is relevant. I have found the method of working both exciting and challenging. Stimulating emotions, intellect, and creativity Symphony in Blue :- Movement no. 1 :- 1/2/3/ Movement no. 2 :- 1/2/3/ Movement no. 3 :- 1/2/3/ Movement no. 4 :- 1/2/3/ Symphony in Blue was created by editing 2 screen prints :- ' Heroes in Blue ' and ' Reflections in Blue ' during 1994 . It has since been vectored using illustrator 8 to enable printing.
