I was born in Spokane, Washington in 1951 and grew up near Mica, Washington.
My interest in photography began with watching my mother make photographs with her Kodak Brownie box camera. My first camera was purchased for twenty-five cents at a rummage sale when I was thirteen years old. By the time I was in high school, I was using a 35mm camera and processing and printing my own film.
I have worked with medium and large format film cameras for monochrome photography, making traditional silver-gelatin prints. I now use primarily digital cameras, along with scanning of film negatives and transparencies.
Landscapes, wildlife, and architecture are my preferred subjects. I am particularly interested in the ways that humans both adapt to the environment and how they modify their surroundings to suit their purposes.
I taught beginning photography for several years at the Corbin Art Center in Spokane, Washington, and for twelve years I taught color processing and printing as well as advanced black and white techniques at Spokane Falls Community College.
