David Swantner was raised on the Gulf Coast in South Texas. He began drawing at age 4 and painting at 8. His younger years were filled with fishing and hunting in the beauty and wonder of Padre Island, the South Texas brush country and the Texas Hill Country. While at Rice University he drew in pen and ink, charcoal and graphite for 4 years.
