Denise (Hogue) Hoff, inspired by Macomb, Illinois art instructor Don Heberling, began painting in acrylic and oils in 1969. Following high school graduation 1970, she continued to dabble in art, and took some private lessons. After marriage in 1978, family life became her focus, with painting becoming a rare pleasure. However, it was one she promised to return to someday, after her sons were grown.
In 1998, a trip to Door County, Wisconsin proved to be a turning point. At her husband's suggestion, she took along paints, paper and brushes and discovered a new passion for watercolor. The rocky meadows of wildflowers and vast water-scapes provided endless scenes to be rendered. Since then, Denise has completed in excess of 200 watercolor and acrylic paintings.
Deeply influenced by nature and the beauty that God has created, Denise paints landscapes that convey her love of the outdoors. By the age of 26, she had moved nineteen times within the United States and Canada. Seeing so much of the country has served her well as she captures scenes of the American landscape. She also has an avid interest in family history, and has painted barns and houses that are part of that history. Prints of these renderings have become Christmas cards, as well as a record of cherished family homesteads from the past.
Since 1999, Denise has exhibited her work at local events and festivals, and donated prints and originals to the annual Blackburn College Scholarship Auction in Carlinville, Illinois. She has also enjoyed assisting with the painting of sets for Carlinville Senior High School's annual musicals.
Photography is a more recent pursuit, with a concentration on landscapes and nature. Photographic art prints offered on this site reflect scenes in Illinois, Colorado, Montana, Tennessee and Wisconsin. A return trip to Door County, Wisconsin in 2010 provided varied scenes and moods to be captured.
Denise relocated to Carlinville, Illinois in 1984, where she and her husband raised their two sons. In addition to her artistic pursuits, she has served as a church secretary since 1989.
Denise Hoff joined Fine Art America on June 10th, 2009.
