She enjoys working with architects, designers and developers to create custom artwork complementing their space and colors. Her art and designs are incorporated into materials such as glass, tiles, laminates and metalwork. She works in both traditional and modern medias including acrylics, oil sticks, pastels, watercolors, inks, collage, relief, mosaics, ceramics and digital media.

Dorinda Skains Solo Exhibit, Feb 3 - 25

Juneau-Douglas City Museum solo artist for the month of February is Dorinda Skains. Her new show, Solitude & Place, will be displayed Feb 3 to 25, Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm. This exhibit represents personal and visual recollections of Southeast Alaska landscapes. They are created from her experiences, memories and feelings of this place and were made to simply record a time, a day, a season or a mood. The artworks are created from a mix of traditional and non-traditional media. Blending art with technology, each work begins with a traditional painting or collage, which is scanned and digitally hand-painted. Shapes and colors are multiplied and exaggerated with algorithms creating new dynamic patterns. The resulting work is printed, painted with pastels or acrylics and rescanned.
