Thanks to a very artistically talented father Don was encouraged to be creative at a very young age, everything from painting and drawing to wood carving. He was fortunate to be surrounded by friends with similar interests which presented a continuous challenge. An interest in ships led to acceptance into Canada’s Naval College which, in turn, introduced the sea into his blood; an influence that was to have a major impact when his desire to paint became more serious later in life.
