Art entered my conscious life when I first viewed bright red and yellow plastic mugs when I was four in 1954. In the 1960's I made accurate renderings of Rembrandt etchings from books. At 16 I had private art classes with South Africa artist Cecil Skotnes. Johannesburg College of Art (1970 - 1973) where I studied Graphic Design. Night classes in figure drawing and painting at Ruth Prowse Art School (1981 - 1988) and at The Artist's Co-operative (1989 - 2002). I became a full time artist in 1998. Galleries: Hout Street Gallery, Paarl. Investment Art (I'Art), Chris Tugwell Gallery, Chris Crake Gallery, Adlou Art. Cedar Tree Gallery, Saint James. In December 1999 I exhibited at the 7th Florence Biennale. Invited to exhibit at the 8th Florence Biennale in 2011.

Gavin Calf joined Fine Art America on March 10th, 2010.
