Jerry Carpenter, born in Fairmont, West Virginia, educated at Berea College in Kentucky and Catholic University of America, moved from Washington, DC, to California in 2000.
Working as an Information Technology professional is a stressful job; thus, in an effort to find peace I began painting watercolors under the tutelage of Ms. Bobbie Dixon as part of the Santa Clara Adult Education Program after moving to California. Since then, I have studied with other prominent artists.
I began drawing and painting as a child, especially architecture. The medium of choice was Acrylics during his high school and college years. A developing career path caused him to long abandon the art. In recent years, the change to watercolor was a freeing process. I paint with detail and multiple layers of color. I am inspired by a favorite line of a fellow artist who says, Bring something different to every painting, do not just paint what you see. Currently, subject matter can range from still life, architecture, landscape, reflections, and on watercolor paper or watercolor canvas.
I now live in Santa Clara, CA and enjoy developing the art of bonsai with my sensei at the Bonsai Garden at Lake Merritt and as a club member of various Bay Area bonsai clubs.. Painting brings great peace to my soul.
