A New York painter incorporating Impressionist and Romantic art into her own distinctive body of work.

A classical style and whimsical attitude creates art appealing to the heart as well as the intellect.

Ms. Sorrentino has exhibited at many fine galleries in New York City, Long Island, Connecticut, and Austria. She is the recipient of juried prizes and her works can be found in many private collections.

After a career in style and design running a company producing hand painted silk couture, I decided to follow my heart and embark on a course of rigorous classic training in art related academia. My focus was anatomy, portraiture, and landscapes in both watercolor and oil compositions.

My education began in the early 1980’s at Paier College of Art, New Haven, CT; The Ringling School of Design, Sarasota, FL, and the Old Lyme Academy, Old Lyme, CT, where I developed a love for the Impressionists who had left their mark in this lovely area. As I developed, I was honored with exhibitions at the Old Lyme Art Association, membership in the Madison Art Society where I won awards, and exhibitions in several galleries in Connecticut.

In 1995, I moved to New York where I became a member of the Manhasset Art Society, Dublin Kahn Mistinguette Gallery, and the Discovery Gallery. I also exhibited in Europe in 1997.

My love of art and desire for the constant momentum of an artistic environment brought me to study at the Art Student’s League with many fine artists such as Frank Mason.

Soon after, I had resurgence in studying classic painters and copied their work in various sizes incorporating a whimsical attitude. I now call these paintings the muse series. After working from such masters as Fragonard, Chardin, Watteau, and Bougereu, I learned much about paint application and embarked on my current series.

Art can only imitate life, but it can also capture the moment between the soul of the painter and the essence of its point in time, which on canvas can capture a moment in eternity.

Glynnis Sorrentino is also the gallery owner of Gallery at 85 Main Street, Centerbrook, CT.
