Born to a single parent family, Greg Pitts started out life at a disadvantage. Growing up without a father figure made life less than ideal. He did not meet his father until the age of 12. As a young teen, he exhibited artistic capabilities; however, the lack of understanding from his family lead to discouragement. He continued to strive to express himself artistically. He purchased his first camera on lay-a-way from a camera store in his hometown of Lima, Ohio.
His artistic eye and fashion sense, while a senior in high school, lead him to be offered admission to a prestigious fashion design school; but because of stereotypical attitudes, students at school would call him a nerd and at home no one would assist him in the application process. Stating that Òthat kind of stuff is for sissies.Ó Discouraged, he graduated without any formal plans. Later, he joined the Army in order to provide for his soon to be born son.
Despite a difficult start in life, he continued to express his artistic side. He's also an awarding winning photographer, taking photo's of everyone from PDIDDY TO PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE MITT ROMNEY (just to name a few).
Greg Pitts' abstract artwork has been compared to that of abstract expressionist artist Jackson Pollock. He's currently a featured Artist in Miami hosting his 1st Miami Art Basel exhibit for 2010-2011. He was at Gallery 101 in Ft. Lauderdale where his piece 'BASELMANIA' was featured on NBC6, covered by Jeff Burnside, for a charity called NVEEE (National Voices For Equality, Education & Enlightenment) for the prevention of bullying in schools.
Mr. Pitts has gained national recognition by making the top story on Google News on May 9,2009, with a feature article being published about his work in EV Living Magazine, an internet magazine that provides news, information and lifestyle features to the greater Phoenix Arizona and East Valley area of the Southwest US, and was welcomed as a visiting artist by the Torpedo Art Factory in Alexandria,VA.
One of GregÕs quotes is ÒA rich man gives because he can. A poor man gives because he cares.Ó He has and continues to exhibit this philosophy by donating his artwork to various charities. Several of the recipients of his benevolence have been: Florida AIDS walk, The Cystic Fibrosis Association, American Cancer Society, American Diabetes Association, Kids in Distress, JAFCO, Tourette Syndrome Association, Starlight ChildrenÕs Foundation, and The Russell Life Skills and Reading Foundation just to name a few. Google this Man and I bet you'll find him doing something interesting all the time. He has sold art in Berlin, San Francisco, Chicago, and Ohio.
