J.P. 'Pat' Childress, a fifth generation Texan, was born and raised in the eastern oilfields of the state. He graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a M.B.A and after starting and later selling a holding company, Childress moved to the Hill Country of Texas. His interest in art is long standing; he constantly improves his techniques in oil painting and sculpting through workshops and classes with some of the most highly respected artists on today's art scene.
'I was fortunate to have a very good instructor in oil painting when I began in that medium some years ago,' stated Childress. 'He taught me the very basics, such as paint what you see. Years later, other teaching artists suggested that I change gears, saying paint what you feel. So, I like to think my oil painting is a good blend of realism and expressionism.'
Childress has shown his work in numerous shows and won awards in every juried show in which he submitted his sculptures. Note that full descriptions and prices, along with detailed photographs, of bronze sculptures are on a different website - https://www.saatchiart.com/jpchildress.
Also, please note that about a third of the original paintings shown on this website are available for sale; the balance having been sold primarily through art galleries. All original oil paintings are handled direct by the artist. Each available painting is priced based on the size and complexity of the work.
