Mr. Cartwright was born and educated in Michigan. His early life began with tremendous challenges having lost both his parents within six months of each other when he was 5. The youngest of three boys, he and his siblings were placed in an orphanage with 200 other children. Feeling physically and emotionally abandoned Mr. Cartwright struggled for years to gain some since of understanding and acceptance of his plight.
