Livestock and landscape photographer/artist shooting largely in Montana and Pennsylvania. Subjects include farm vehicles, cars and trucks from the 1935-1960 era, domestic livestock, rural scenics. Married, four sons, two grandchildren. US Air Force, 1963-67. Vietnam veteran. Graduate of Allegheny College, Meadville, PA.

“Some time ago, I established ‘S. Y. D.’ (Start Your Day) photography on my website, alongcountryroads.com Purpose? To provide images as welcome and uplifting as your first cup of morning coffee. I present rural and maritime landscapes, still lifes, animal portraits viewers find comforting, nostalgic, or inspiring. Images you’d be pleased to hang in your home––such is my cup of tea. Or coffee.

“Consequently, I typically avoid rusting pickup trucks or tractors abandoned in the fields, or forlorn farm houses and ramshackle barns suffering neglect. These portray discouragement and loss. Having witnessed and experienced such, disappointment is not the story I want to tell through my lenses.

“No ‘downers’ please. Not within ‘Start Your Day’ parameters. Pleasant memories, how they linger.

“And what I saw through my lenses is largely what you, the viewers, see. I try to minimize manipulation, preferring to capture a well-studied shot in the camera, not doctoring it on the computer. Yes, cropping is sometimes necessary. And straightening. I tend to have problems getting my horizons . . . horizontal.

As with the honesty found in classical masterpieces and bluegrass, I like my art unadulterated. Minimal manipulation, no phony cosmetics, but rather subjects that look alive and real, not embalmed or garish like a paint-by-numbers painting.

“Many thanks for viewing these pages and images. And, please visit my website, www.alongcountryroads.com for more images, country fiction, and excerpts from my novel about farm kids and Little League Baseball, The Boys of Summers Run.
