I take pictures of subjects that move me, objects I love, places that make me feel something, or moments that seem to have a rhythm or pattern all their own that I can only communicate with a photo. I am mainly self-taught, having followed a breadcrumbs-like trail of learning one skill after another. However, learning this way has taught me one very important thing: that who I am and what I create is irreparably impacted, inspired, and nurtured by the artists, family, and friends in my life.
I also draw and paint. As a result, I think of myself more as artist than photographer. Try as I might to settle on one path or medium, I find I am continually drawn into different ways of creating, searching for something, taking some ideas or inspirations and leaving others. The unexpected benefit of this process has been that each new art form has allowed me to cross-pollinate these insights back to my photos and drawings, the mediums I tend to come back to, with layers I wouldn’t have otherwise thought to add.
