In 1996 I read Julia Cameron's 'The Artist's Way' and became inspired that MAYBE I could paint. In 1997 I took an oil painting class in Beaumont, California with A. Goodman. I joined the San Gorgonio Pass Artist's Association and Hemet Valley Art Association and won many awards in juried shows with my landscape and seascape paintings. I am a member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts.
In 2006 my husband and I moved to New Mexico and I joined the Rio Grande Art Association and New Mexico Art League. I took a plein air painting workshop 'Enchanted Landscapes' with David W. Mayer April 22-24, 2010 in Albuquerque. I started an art blog, joined Twitter, LinkedIn and added a Jo Anne Neely Gomez Art Studio page on Facebook.
Since moving to New Mexico I have been a participating artist in 'Let's Paint New Mexico' online, have my artwork on display and for purchase at Essence Gallery and Boutique in Old Town Albuquerque, also at The Range Cafe in Bernalillo, and started a new website at www.neelygomez.com where you can view my different artwork, upcoming events and links.
I am on a 'journey' and invite you to come along with me in finding those colorful, beautiful, intriguing and wonderfully enriching nuggets along the way that make the adventures through life worth the struggle, hardships and pain. As Julia Cameron says 'Creativity is God's gift to us. Using our creativity is our gift back to God.
