Heart Of Ybor Contest Committee Choice Award 2023

Wimauma, FL - August 23rd, 2023

WAITING ON THE TROLLEY takes you back to the heyday of Tampa, Florida's streetcar system. The TECO Line Streetcar System again traverses the City of Tampa's downtown area where you can ride these replica streetcars for free. This drawing was done in colored pencil on Stonehenge paper. The trolley is sitting at the end of the line in Ybor City, the passenger is waiting for the conductor to finish switching the electric connection to return to downtown Tampa. Starting in 1892 streetcars whisked passengers to and from Ybor City, Ballast Point, Hyde Park and Sulphur Springs. The bright Birney Cars were a welcome sight as well as the clang of the bell. Their time ended in 1946 after World War II but in 1984 the Tampa & Ybor Railway Society worked to get the streetcars rolling again.

FIRST IN SHOW

Lutz, FL - October 16th, 2016

Joan Garcia won First in Show for her painting "Cruising the Channel" at the Stirling Art Studios and Gallery in Dunedin, Florida. Judging was done by Christine Renc-Carter from the Leepa Rattner Museum. Her comments: "All of Joan's work is equally as stunning. I was particularly drawn to the composition and balance of color in this square format. The light and attention to dtail is exquisite. The luminosity of the painting gives a sense of depth and perspective from the viewer. The story unforlding above and below the water is equally as interesting creating a dynamic composition and narrative." Prints of "Cruising the Channel" are available through Fine Art America and Pixels.com. The original is also available by contacting the artist.
