Greensboro based artist, John Gibbs, has been painting since early 2000. While working in Chicago as an Art Director he began painting as a more personal creative outlet. His work is still influenced by his work in computer graphics and commercial art. John’s work has been seeking a balance between representation and abstraction or ambiguity. John draws inspiration from landscapes, people, animals, and things. Through the creative process of rendering these things he shows the viewer a different perspective and interpretation from his life experience.Â
John’s work is recognizable by its use of intense colors, cloud scapes, line work, and graphic style. The artwork is meant to be familiar and accessible with a twist to make the viewer question the subject or to look at the painting in a different way. His goal is to create works that resonate with the viewer.Â
