Hi, I began drawing portraits in 1979 using standard pencils, on Strathmore Bristol Regular and Smooth Surface paper.Strathmore Regular Surface is excellent for pencil artwork, but they discontinuedtheir Regular Surface paper about 25 years ago, and I have been using their Smooth Surface paper since then.Drawing on Bristol Smooth Surface paper is okay, but I have noticed the drawings take longer to completebecause the surface is too smooth, and more applications of graphite are needed.I also noticed the skin tones on portraits do not look the.same as they did onthe Bristol Regular Surface paper.
