I've always loved to draw, but never took the time to take any formal art classes. I just worked and worked, and did arts and craft type stuff. After I retired a few years ago, I thought I would give drawing a serious try, and see if I could make something of it. I found a wonderful art teacher, who taught me the basics of drawing, and all good art, and here I am!
I often get get lost in my work, and go into the 'zone', so I don't always remember how I did what I did. Somehow it does come back to me the for the next time. It is both relaxing and challenging at the same time, and the time goes by very fast. My favorite subjects have been doorways, poppies, orchids, calla lilies, bromeliads, bamboos, and koi, so far. It's going on two and half years since I began my illustrations, and it feels like there are so many subjects that I'm interested in, that I'll never be done!
I hope you enjoy looking at my artwork. I would really appreciate your comments (be kind, if there is something you don't like, or thinks need improvement, please) so I can do a better job. I'm working towards a very 'painterly' or photographic look, with a just enough of a difference to distinguish it from everyone else.
In July 2012 I tried out an acrylic paint set and discovered that I enjoyed that as well. I'll be working in that medium for awhile and see how it goes. I get the same 'zen zone' feeling out of it, so it's an enjoyable new challenge for me.
