JOSIP RUBES, painter and physician, was born in Jastrebarsko, Croatia in 1942. He was educated
in Zagreb, where he graduated from medical school and specialized in internal medicine. He
has been drawing and painting from a very early age. He attended painting classes in Zagreb.
Since 1972, he has been living in Krapinske Toplice in the picturesque region of Croatian Zagorje,
an area renowned for its thermal springs. Inspired by the beauty of this part of Croatia, he has
intensively painted landscapes, using mostly the dry pastel technique, and has put together
an opus of over 1,000 paintings. In the last five years he has been painting in an abstract style
using the action painting technique. He has held more than 50 independent exhibitions and
participated in over 300 group exhibits. 2012 years graduated as a painter ARTHOUSE - College of
Visual arts in Ljubljana, Slovenia.
