Coming soon... Julia Turk, born in England, was educated at several notable art schools. The Ruskin School of Art, Oxford University; St. Martins School of Art, Soho, London; portrait painting at the Leighton Studio in San Francisco under Margery Lester; and other schools. Julia did not graduate with a BFA, however, but went her own way and eventually developed a visionary style based on hard edged detail, stylised images, and bizarre and unusual compositions. Many of her paintings are based on todays' society in a subtle way. In 1989 Julia began the artwork for the Navigators Tarot of the Mystic SEA, deck and book, which was published in 1997 by U.S. Games Systems. They handed the copyright back to Julia in 2007 and helped her to reprint 3,200 decks, over which she has sole control. Decks are for sale.
Julia spent thirty years as a yacht skipper in the Mediterranean and Caribbean and USA. She is a Certified Tarot Master with the American Tarot Association, a past member of the Association of Humanistic Psychology and a current member of the Center for Jungian Studies of South Florida. She has given many presentations over the years, using her artwork to explain the tarot and its roots in the Hermetic Cabala. She is a student of the Cabala and teaches workshops on the subject in the hope of unifying different religions and encouraging individuals to make the most of their lives as a vision of a better world society.
Julia is currently writing a fantasy trilogy on the Navigators Tarot 'The Navigators Dream'. Volume I 'Riverlog' is published and Vol II :Gulftide' completed. Vol III 'Seatime' is nearly finished! Her artwork has been compared to the recent blockbuster film 'Avatar,' although these paintings were completed before the film was made.
Julia Turk joined Fine Art America on October 20th, 2010.
