Photography to me is about capturing emotion...what you feel...or why that particular moment was important to you. It's about using light to define the subject and understanding how to effectively interpret what is there by photographing from the heart. I've been involved in photography in one way or another for over forty years and the more I explore this fascinating art form the more I realize just how much there is to learn. I tend to focus more on nature and scenic opportunities, but I have learned a great deal by exploring other areas of photography as well. By photographing people I've learned about expression, from landscapes I've learned how to simplify, from wildlife I've learned how to be patient. Night photography has taught me how to read drama and story into an image, from astrophotography I've learned to look for the unseen. Black and white photography has taught me about shape and form, and florals has helped me appreciate detail. All of them have proven time and again just how important light is when it comes to artistic expression.
I've been fortunate to have been published in several magazines including Country, Back Home, Outdoor Oklahoma, Kentucky Living, Oklahoma Today, and maintain a popular blog site called Beyond the Campfire (www.beyondthecampfirebykeith.blogspot.com). Beyond the Campfire is an outdoor adventure / photography themed site where I explore how to apply photographic skills with outdoor activities. I have also had photography related articles published in Country, Back Home, and Kentucky Society of Natural History. Another popular activity I've been involved with is teaching a workshop on photography based on the theme 'How to See Photographically'.
