I have been painting and crafting in various mediums for the last 25 years, mostly working in watercolor. Then, in 2011, I discovered the art of needle felting. Needle felting is a process where I spend hours using sets of specially barbed needles that lock the fibers together as I punch the wool. I use a pre-felted wool backing as a base for my paintings that holds the wool well and frames beautifully. Though most prefer glazing their art, I keep my own needle felted paintings open so I can appreciate the texture of the various fibers. It requires a little careful maintenance to ensure they stay clean but enjoying the textures is worth the effort to me.
I find that needle felting wool paintings opens a whole new world up in art with it's unlimited colors and textures. I find peace and escape when I work on my wool paintings. Each one comes alive with different types of fiber. They always turn into their own creation as I work the wool.
