'Welcome to Sin City'
Twenty years ago when I moved here was the first time I heard this. Since then, a LOT of subject matter has passed in front of my lenses. Nothing is restored in Las Vegas, it is torn down to build new, so there are always fresh subjects to shoot. Do I have a 'specialty'? Well...... if taking pretty pictures that people can connect with is a specialty, then yes; if it means being able to McGuyver my way through a photoshoot quickly going south, then yes, if it means being able to capture the right image for a feature article with 24 hours notice, then yes I have a specialty.
Recognition is always a great motivator. Over the past 14 months have made the top 5 finalists for new cover art for Al Capone cigars (see Night Work), have an image accompanying a feature article in Nevada Magazine, and an accompanying image in an upcoming article of VIA magazine. Commercial property photography and mixed-media presentations are a concept that is beginning to take life.
When you live in the 'asphalt jungle' and are a photographer you need to create your own environment that attracts the subject matter you like to shoot. I have what I laughingly refer to as my Backyard Studio, a green thumb and wonderful weather makes keeping a colorful environment for our winged friends a practical choice. Most of my flower, butterfly and pollinator images are taken mere steps out the back door, which with enough practice have become as close to perfect as I can get.
Thanks for taking a moment to read the ramblings, and enjoy the images.
