Michael Rock is an English born, self-taught artist.
It was amongst the beautiful Devon countryside, with its abundance of lush forests, soft rolling pastures, clear rivers and two stunning coastlines, where Michael�s earliest inspiration began for expressing the affection he felt for his surroundings through the use of pencil drawings and paint.
Michael feels strongly connected to natural beauty. In 1998, he realized his life-long dream of making California his home. His love for the scenery around the central coast continues to provide an endless fascination.
The golden hills of Paso Robles and Sonoma often provoke more distant thoughts about the landscape of Tuscany, an area that Michael feels passionately about. Those Italian influences often find their way onto Michael�s canvases.
He recalls as a teenager, how he became captivated by the elegant style of artist Alphonse Mucha.
In more recent years, he has admired contemporary artists, including Svetlana Valueva, Felix Mas and Andre Kohn.
Michael�s style is a unique and personal reflection of his passions and emotions which he endeavors to capture on canvas using many layers of complex oils with light textures.
Michael�s works have often been described as serene, magical and atmospheric.
Recently, Michael has been gravitating to an unfinished or incomplete image that invites a more personal interpretation of his art.
Beauty is always at the core of his work, immersed in human emotion.
His artworks have been exhibited in galleries and venues around California�s central coast.
