Nicole Gavin Showing At Starr Gallery

Growing up in the suburbs of Detroit, MI., now residing in Houston, TX, self-taught, contemporary artist, Nicole Gavin's, exposure to culture and history fostered a lifelong love of the arts. Her grandmother was an artist and her family, large contributors to the Detroit Institute of Arts, have engulfed her in the art world since she was a child. Although she never picked up a paintbrush until late 2010, Gavin has made a name for herself with her paintings being found in a myriad of private art collections throughout the United States, as well being featured in various group, solo exhibitions and international art competitions. Her artwork was used (front/back covers and song lyric sleeves) for the debut album of Detroit, MI based band, RACEcarraceCAR, and most recently, her artwork is being featured on an upcoming release of Southern Star Brewery's Craft Beer, “Garden State”. Southern Star Brewing Company Garden State Art Can

Our second release in the Art Can Series is Garden State! This beautiful can features the painting Garden State by Nicole Gavin and is paired with a beer specially made with this artwork in mind. Inside is a traditional German Hefeweizen with Bavarian Mandaria hops! The hops are added late in the boil and dry-hopped in the fermenter, adding fruity, citrus flavors to complement the banana and clove flavors contributed by the yeast.

Garden State, a new addition to the Southern Star Art Can Series, is a traditional hefeweizen style beer brewed with mandarina Bavaria hops. The artwork on the can is from Houston artist Nicole Gavin and shares the namesake with the beer itself. Per a representative of the brewery, Garden State clocks in at 5.25 percent ABV with the classic hefeweizen profile, but finishes with a charge of orange in both aroma and flavor. Southern Star projects this to be a mid to late summer 2016 release.

Jury panel selects artists for Artcrawl Houston By Community Reports | For the 22nd year, Artcrawl Houston invites Houstonians for a self guided tour inside the studios, warehouses and temporary art spaces of over 140 participating artists. This years event takes place Saturday, Nov. 22, from 10 a.m. 9 p.m. at various locations on the north side of downtown Houston. Atelier Jacquinet, a studio located at 913 McKee St., has been a participant for more than 15 years and will host a selection of juried artists and guests at this years event. Owner Francis Jacquinet, a chef and artist himself, has hosted more than two dozen fellow artists at past Artcrawls. Cherise Luter Last night, I was kicking myself for never attending Artopia in the past. I will never make that mistake again. It's not often that all the creative worlds of Houston converge, which is a pity, but when they do, a real party results. Presented by the Houston Press, Artopia is the ultimate intersection of culture, fashion, art, food and music. Winter Street Studio plays host to all sorts of live performances interspersed with food and drinks. Then to top it all off, a fashion show, visual art everywhere and live music.
