A native Oregonian, Richard was raised in Portland, Oregon. He received a Bachelor of Science from Portland State University and a Master of Arts from Lewis and Clark College. He began a career as a high school science teacher, later moving to curriculum specialist and finally to graduate level college instructor. Throughout an honored professional career, Richard sought to infuse his love of writing with an equal love of the artistry in photography.
