I'm PONZ, Artist Robert Ponzio from Gainesville, FL, USA.
I am a Blues artist that has interacted artistically with Blues and other musicians for many years through my art and improvisational / live painting performances. My live, performance paintings have led me to be called a 'Visual Percussionist'!
Much of my work is created through a unique technique of carving directly onto painted planks of wood. As you browse through my artwork, you will find that my Art is created in a variety of different Blues related themes, forms and sizes as well.
Most recently, I was proud that my piece, 'The Color of Blues', (a 30 ft. wide, carved, wooden installation), found a home on permanent display on the stage of the B. B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center's 'Club Ebony' in Indianola, Mississippi!
Indianola is the birthplace of one of the pioneers of the Blues, B. B. King, and Club Ebony is where his musical career began. The 16 million dollar museum is also built around an old cotton gin where B. B. King used to work. The historic Club Ebony is maintained by the museum as a working 'Juke Joint' to keep the spirit of the Blues alive. On 8/8/13 a reception / concert was held to celebrate the installation of my artwork where I joined the musicians on stage and created an improvisational painting, 'Club Ebony', which now also hangs in the club.
I am honored that my work found a home in such an historic and important part of Blues history!
