Roberta Rosenthal is an internationally published, exhibited and collected artist. Her paintings span the genres of fine art, illustration and graphic design.

Roberta knew at the age of 5 she wanted to be an artist. In 1967 she graduated from the High School of Art and Design in Manhattan, in New York City. She specialized in fashion illustration and advertising design and received both an academic and commercial diplomas. In 1969 Roberta received a degree in Textile Design and Fine Art from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Her first position was as an executive designer for Macy's 34th St and created Macy's own products in every department of the store. Determined to continue as an artist and not as an executive buyer Roberta created textile designs for numerous corporations until she found a position as a designer for Leo Art Studio. After learning from top artists and becoming clients favorite floral print designer she went out on her own.

In 1977 Roberta founded RSR Designs NY in Manhattan. The studio’s projects encompassed a huge range, from textile and packaging design to publishing to philatelics. She is known for a series of botanical postage stamp illustrations for the Republic of Palau and the Marshall Islands, Jewish New Years greeting cards and illustrations for gardening books, gardening magazines and the New York Times. During this time she studied with Japanese and Chinese painting masters to include Asian brush painting into her scope of techniques.

As a fine artist, Roberta’s specialty is botanicals which she explores in a variety of styles and media. From watercolors in the European tradition of Redouté to colored pencil, acrylic and oils to sumi-e ink brush techniques, Roberta is a master of many forms.

For the past 29 years Roberta has shared her expertise with hundreds of students as an instructor in both Botanical Art and Business Practices for Artists at the famed New York Botanical Garden, then at Star Gallery in Middletown, NY, Catskill Art Society, Mount Saint Mary College Desmond campus and at her own studio in Bloomingburg, NY.

Recently, Roberta has expanded her repertoire into the highly specialized and personal field of Ketubahs, Jewish wedding contracts. Original botanicals, landscapes, wildlife and multilingual calligraphy are combined into unique, museum quality family heirlooms for all faiths. Roberta's art has been in solo, group and juried exhibitions and is collected by individuals and institutions.

Her current studio, Squirrel's Nest, is located on top of Shawanga Mountain with a view of the Hudson Valley in Sullivan County, New York.

Roberta Rosenthal joined Fine Art America on June 21st, 2010.
