I made my first mosaic at the age of 8 when I attended Saturday classes at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.   Over the years, I've dabbled in lots of different medium, but there's something about the color and texture of mosaics that really captures my imagination.   Several years ago, I met Mary Lawrence (check out makeitmosaic.com) who gave me some materials and instructions and put me to work.   I've never stopped.   Click the box to see my sales site on Etsy.com!

Pandora Boxes

In Greek mythology, Pandora (ancient Greek for "all-gifted", "all-endowed") was the first woman. As Hesiod related it, each god helped create her by giving her unique gifts. Zeus ordered Hephaestus to mold her out of earth as part of the punishment of mankind for Prometheus' theft of the secret of fire, and all the gods joined in offering her "seductive gifts". According to the myth, Pandora opened a jar, in modern accounts, "Pandora's box", releasing all the evils of humankind — leaving only Hope inside once she had closed it again. She opened the jar out of simple curiosity and not as a malicious act. I always felt it unfair that she should be fated to unwittingly releasing the Evils, but not the Hopes. I've made these beautiful boxes and choose to free Pandora from her original fate. These boxes are intended to release your Hopes, not any evil intent. These boxes are made using Italian stained glass, glass tiles, mirror glass, semi-prescious stones, Van Gogh glass, vintage jewelry and other materials.
