Smith Catholic Art started in 2001 as a response to St. John Paul II's 1999 Letter to Artists and the New Evangelization. It endeavors to answer the call to make visual the beauty and richness of the Catholic faith.
'The mission is to create beautiful, contemporary, Catholic art.'
Art is an interplay with the Creative Spirit. Thomas Aquinas wrote that objective beauty has three components, integrity, clarity, and proportion. In fine art these translate: Integrity - the beauty in quality materials, authentic process, and workmanship; Clarity - the eloquence of idea and purpose communicated by the work; Proportion - good composition, or the well ordered relationships of visual elements.'
