Susan Thacker was reared in Houston, Texas. Susan received recognition for her artwork at an early age. At ages 17 and 18, she was awarded three Scholastic Art Gold Keys. One of her pieces, 'Needle Weaving', was exhibited in the Museum of Modern Art (now called MoMA) in New York through the Scholastic awards.
