Yoshi Mizutani was born in Japan and exhibited a passion for art from a very young age. Driven by a desire to master the techniques of European realism in the tradition of artists such as Velazquez and Sargent, Yoshi left his home country at the age of 18 to study abroad in Spain, France and Italy. Subsequently he relocated to the United States where he spent eight years further refining his craft with the renowned portraitist Robert Cormier at the R.H. Ives Gammell Studios in Boston, Massachusetts.
Upon completing his studies in Boston, Yoshi moved to Spain and began his career there as a noted portrait and landscape artist of the realism school. During this period, aside from his work as a commissioned artist, Yoshi continued to develop his mastery through intense study of the works of Spanish masters Velasquez and Sorolla at the Prado Museum and other notable institutions in Madrid. In 2002 Yoshi returned to Boston and opened his Atelier at the historic artists' residence, Fenway Studios. Today, Yoshi's work is noted for its ability to convey both visual accuracy and emotional truth in the subtle tradition of classical realism. His paintings encompass still life, landscapes, figures and portraits. Yoshi has won numerous international awards and his work is found in private homes as well as public and international collections.
